Banned: PUBG Mobile game plus other 118 Chinese applications banned in India.
The ministry of information and technology on Wednesday banned a total of 118 Chinese applications including the nation favorite game PUBG.
The second wave of banning Chinese application comes right after amid rising tension between India and China on eastern Ladakh. The move was in the interest of India's sovereignty and integrity, defense, and security, the government has asserted in the statement.
According to reports, there are more than 33 million active PUBG players in India. The game clocks in some 13 million daily users. PUBG is not an only popular game in India but worldwide with more than 734 million downloads. The game is owned by a Chinese company Tencent Holding Ltd.
Explaining this decision the Ministry of Electronics and information technology, have stated that this decision is been taken under the section 69A information technology Act, on grounds that "they are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order.
The ministry has said that "This move will also safeguard the interest of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. The decision is a targeted one meant to ensure safety, security, and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace.
Ministry has stated that they received several complaints about the misuse of some mobile apps on Androids and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting user data to servers outside India.
"The compilation of these data, it's mining and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defense of India is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures," said the statement.
The home ministry's cybercrime center had also recommended the banning of these malicious apps "the government said.
Among 118 Chinese applications banned by the government, it includes Baidu, Baidu Express Edition, Asus Launcher, FaceU, Wechat Reading, and Tencent Weiyun, besides PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite, the statement read.
Earlier In the month of June, in the first strike, the center banned 59 Chinese applications including TicTok, UC Browser, and Wechat Citing the reason for nations' security and sovereignty.
