Marathi actor Ashalata wabgaonkar dies at age of 79 due to covid-19 while shooting for TV serial 'Aai Mahji kalubai'

well known actor Ashalata wabgaonkar who acted in over 100 Marathi movies, several Marathi and Konkani play.she was also seen in well known Hindi films like Woh Saat din, Namak halal, Shakuni, Ahista Ahista, Coolie ,Sadma and Ghayal
Sources said that she was shooting for Marathi TV serial 'Aai Mahji kalubai' in Satara for last one month, she among with at least 22 other crew member of the production team had tested  positive last week
Wabgaonkar made her theatrical debut in the role of Revati in the play Sanshaykallol. She had won several awards for her theatre shows. She worked in films like Woh Saat Din, Ahista Ahista, Shaukeen, Ankush and Namak Halaal among others in her four-decade career.
Ashalata wabgaonkar, who had resumed shooting the day after the Bombay high court quashed the state government's directive that prevented any cast or crew members above 65 years at sets, succumbed to COVID-19 in Satara on Tuesday morning she was 79
Wabgaonkar was subsequently hospitalised after she started showing symptoms to Pratibha hospital where she was undergoing treatment for the last seven days
The doctor who treated her said that she was on ventilator support but here condition worsen due to her old age and she passed away at 4:45 am on Tuesday
A district official said all the other crew members are kept under home isolation until they recover
Satara Collector Shekhar Singh stated that the production team approached them for permission to resume shooting a month ago. The team also had hired a bungalow for the shoot between Wai and Phaltan towns. “They were shooting at one or two locations. Based on the Union government's guidelines for resuming shooting, we gave them necessary permissions and asked them to follow social distance norms,” Singh said.
