India has banned flights from UK till december 31


NEW DELHI: India on Monday announced that it has temporarily banned all flights from UK  to the country between december 23 to 31 after the emergence of a new and highly infectious strain of the coronavirus in Britain. 

"Considering the prevailing situation in the UK, Indian govt has decided that all flights originating from the UK to India shall be temporarily suspended till 11:59 pm, 31st December. This suspension to start w.e.f. 11.59 pm, 22nd December," the Ministry of Civil Aviation tweeted.

Technically India has suspended arrival of passengers from the UK. However, it remains to be seen if any airline/s chooses to operate flights from India with passengers and return empty from UK to India.

Currently, British Airways operates 29 flights weekly between India and London Heathrow (LHR)  a daily from Delhi and Mumbai; each and five times weekly from Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
